NILES – Two people were hospitalized following a single vehicle accident early Friday afternoon.
A press release from the Michigan State Police Niles Post 53 stated a 65-year-old couple from Minnesota was involved in a rollover crash shortly after 1 p.m. The accident occurred on US-12 west of Gumwood in Milton Township, Cass County.
The couple was pulling their 26-foot travel trailer. The press release stated the crash was caused after the trailer began to sway.
"This resulted in the driver losing control, sending the tandem into a barrel roll, careening off the roadway," the press release stated.
Both occupants were taken to Lakeland Hospital in Niles. The press release stated the use of seatbelts was accredited for the lack of life threatening serious injury.
Assisting troopers at the scene were Cass County Sheriff's Deputies, Officer Teshka of the Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Division, Niles Charter Township Fire Department, Edwardsburg ambulance services and Southwestern Michigan Community Ambulance Service and Clark's Towing and Recovery Service.
