CASSOPOLIS – A St. Johns man lost his life in Calvin Township Monday afternoon making contact with high voltage.
Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reported that at approximately 1:40 p.m. Aug. 7 his deputies responded to a medical emergency at a job site on Calvin Center Road, near Northrop Street.
The employee pronounced dead at the scene was identified by the sheriff as Curtis Sorell, 34, an employee of Kent Power Co. of Kent who was working on a new electrical substation.
After coming into contact with the high voltage, Sorell fell from the structure.
Other employees on the scene began cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) prior to ambulance personnel arriving.
LifeCare Ambulance Service of Cassopolis and Penn Township Fire Department assisted deputies.
The accident remains under investigation.
In a separate incident, Sheriff Underwood reports his office investigated a single-vehicle, personal-injury accident Monday night on M-40, north of M-60 in Newberg Township.
LorriAnn Gann, 34, of Marcellus, was northbound when her vehicle ran off the roadway to the east, plunged down an embankment and struck a tree. Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor.
Gann was transported to Three Rivers Area Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Newberg Fire and Ambulance assisted deputies. Safety belts were used.
