If you remember tough-rapping Public Enemy's impact on hip-hop in the summer of 1988, you might expect Chuck D to still be in the public eye, but certainly not William Drayton.
People who don't even remember the clock-wearing clown know who Flavor Flav is, thanks to reality television, where he has enjoyed unprecedented staying power.
Flav is beginning his fourth season, his fame hotter than ever.
He resurfaced on VH1's paean to washed-up stars, "Surreal Life," stealing the show by hooking up with Sylvester Stallone's Amazonian ex, Brigitte Nielsen.
Their fling beget "Strange Love," and a betting man might have folded there.
But Flav beat the odds again by starring in a new vehicle, "Flavor of Love," where camera-craving cuties claw and catfight for his affections.
Go figure, except Flavor of Love is starting a new season, and an elderly man in a retirement home on "The Chelsea Handler Show" easily identified Flav from a photograph over stars of more magnitude.
Put some batteries in your clock, Flav.
Your improbable 15 minutes of fame should have run out a while ago.
