Persons interested in participating in the 2006 Cass County CROP Walk have two opportunities to jump in with both feet this week.
On Tuesday, Aug. 8, walk recruiters for local churches, agencies and other groups gather for orientation at 7 p.m. at The Federated Church, 202 Center St. in Dowagiac.
Recruiters rally folks to walk in the CROP Walk as well as encourage support of walkers.
Persons attending will receive sponsorship envelopes and promotional materials and discuss ideas on how to share effectively the mission and vision of the CROP Walk.
On Thursday, Aug. 10, also at 7 p.m. at The Federated Church, all interested persons are invited to a planning session for the CROP Walk.
Such needs as safety, logistics and publicity will be worked on.
There is plenty of room for volunteers.
The Cass County CROP Walk will be Sunday, Sept. 17.
The walk is a project of Church World Service and sponsored by the Cass County Ministerial Association, to help fight hunger locally and worldwide. This year's financial goal is $15,000, of which Helping Hands of Cass County, Feed My Sheep food pantry and Salvation Army / CURE share 25 percent.
Church World Service will use the balance to fight hunger around the globe. Registration the day of the walk will be at 1:30 p.m. at The Federated Church, with step-off will be at 2. Walkers will choose distances of one block, one mile or two miles.
