NILES – Three people were transported to the hospital following a two-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon.
Shortly after noon, deputies with the Berrien County Sheriff's Department responded to a priority call of a rollover accident at the intersection of South 11th Street and Bell Road in Niles Charter Township. Sgt. Miller from the sheriff's department reported arriving on the scene and receiving assistance from Trooper Moore from the Michigan State Police Niles Post 53 and the Niles Charter Township Fire Department.
According to a press release from the sheriff's department, a Chevy Astro Van came to rest on its side after allegedly being hit by a vehicle attempting to turn west off South 11th Street onto Bell Road.
The driver of the van was reportedly southbound on South 11th when a four-door Buick passenger vehicle facing north allegedly attempted to turn west at the intersection, crashing into the front end of the van.
The impact caused the van to overturn several times, eventually coming to rest on its side. The driver and two passengers in the van were transported by ambulance to St. Joseph Medical Center in South Bend, Ind. and later released. The driver of the passenger car received medical attention at the scene and was later released.
