BERRIEN SPRINGS - Bill Baber, R-Berrien Springs, candidate for 78th District state representative, issued a formal debate challenge Monday to his opponent, Rep. Neal Nitz, R-Baroda to engage in a series of four formal debates leading up to the Aug. 8 Republican primary election.
In a written letter to the incumbent, Baber told Nitz that he would work with him to find neutral sponsors and to arrange times that fit into the representative's schedule.
The debates will discuss issues relevant to the citizens of Berrien and Cass County residents, and differ in format from community forums in that they allow candidates to interact with each other and challenge each other's claims.
Constituents who attend the debates will have the opportunity to ask questions and receive immediate feedback from both candidates. “Voters need to know where we stand on important issues that affect their lives and community,” Baber said.
