NILES - A male pedestrian was injured at the intersection of Main and Fifth streets Friday at about 6 p.m.
Lt. Fulton Moore of the Niles Police Department said a blue minivan crossing Main Street on Fifth Street allegedly struck a male pedestrian near the road on the east side of the Ready Theatre.
Moore said the driver of the van attempted to miss the pedestrian, who was hit in the head by the vehicle's side mirror.
Also responding to the scene was the Niles Fire Department and Southwestern Michigan Community Ambulance Service.
The accident is still under investigation and the name of the victim was not released by deadline.
Earlier, Richard Hickok of Buchanan was rescued Friday afternoon by the Niles Fire Department River Rescue Squad from the St. Joseph River after his borrowed pontoon boat lost engine power. An alert fisherman, Chet Dash of Mishawaka, Ind. alerted authorities when he noticed Hickok's engine quit and was drifting toward the dam.
