I knew people would enjoy the story in Wednesday's paper about Mike Coquillard being inducted into the MHSFCA Hall of Fame, but I had no idea it was going to be such a big hit.
People always enjoy reading about what their fellow classmates, co-workers or just Niles natives are up to now and the article was proof.
I could not believe the amount of e-mails that came through while I was at work Thursday morning. Some were old teammates of his, thanking me for doing the article. Others didn't even know him, they just enjoyed seeing something new in the paper. With the success of the story and the interest that it sparked among residents, I've decided that throughout the summer months, we are going to feature people for our "Where are they now" stories.
These stories will be of local or native residents of Niles and Buchanan who made a big statement in high school or college athletics. It can be a former coach, athlete, assistant or anyone who is remembered and left a huge mark in the sports scene.
This idea was first brought to me when I very first started here at the Star. Paul Rifenberg e-mailed me and mentioned that this would be a good idea. My dad also made mention of doing something like this because people always want to know what's going on.
Well, at the time I knew it was a great idea, but with me stepping into a whole different job setting, I needed time to figure everything else out first. Needless to say, as time went on, I became busier and busier and the idea pretty much vanished out of my mind.
Well, big oops on my part. I do the article, people love it, end of story!
I encourage everyone to send in your suggestions about who you would like to see featured in these articles. I will do some research myself and see what I can dig up.
Have a great weekend!
