Watson wins state title

NILES - Warren Watson Jr. claimed a state title on Saturday, May 21 at the Michigan Wrestling Federation Freestyle State Championships at the Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek.
Competing in the field of 14 wrestlers, Watson remained undefeated during the day in the Cadet division, which consists of 14-15 year-olds at 140 pounds.
The state champion in every weight class qualifies to represent the state of Michigan at the Individual National Wrestling tournament. Watson will be battling July 26-28 in Fargo, N.D. in the Fargo Dome at North Dakota State University.
Throughout the course of this Freestyle season, Watson has shown the caliber of a state champion. He has won four different tournaments, not to mention his second place finish at the MYWAY Folkstyle State Championships and second at the Forrest Hills National Team qualifier. Also, this fall, Watson will honor Michigan at the National Boarder War Championships.
Watson is currently a freshman at Brandywine High School.
