Cost of ambulance service decreases

NILES - The cost per parcel for ambulance service in Niles has dropped.
The Niles City Council approved Monday night a resolution for the Southwestern Michigan Community Ambulance Service budget for the fiscal year 2006/2007. The agreement included a special assessment in the amount of $10 per parcel/unit, which is a $3 decrease from the last budget year.
The 2005 total assessment for the City of Niles was $62,803.
The SMCAS Special Assessment District was established in 1992 and requires participating municipalities to approve resolutions for the annual budget and special assessment amount for each approaching fiscal year.
Also at Monday night's regular meeting of the Niles City Council the board:
Approved a request from the Utilities Department to purchase a high pressure LPO sludge pump casing from H&R Industries, Inc. of Grand Rapids at a cost of $5,100.
Adopted a resolution to establish the City total millage rate for the 2006 tax year at 14.3963.
Approved a request from the Pregnancy Care Center to hold their annual Life Walk in the downtown area on June 17 from 7 to 11 a.m.
Approved a Revolving Loan Fund loan to Meg Truesdell (Johnson) in the amount of $10,000.
Approved a traffic order requiring Emmons Street traffic to stop at the Market Street intersection.
