NILES - When cross-town rivals Niles and Brandywine meet Monday on the softball diamond, the game will take on a special significance. Game time is 4:30 p.m. at Vella Park.
This annual clash has been named the Matt Kurtis Memorial, and a traveling trophy will be presented to the winner.
Matt Kurtis, who passed away earlier this year, was the longtime manager for Brandywine softball. Kurtis' love and support of softball extended past the Brandywine outfield fences and he was a frequent visitor to the N.B.G.S.A. summer league, where girls from both schools have played for many seasons.
