Buchanan softball splits with Mishawaka teams in tournament

MISHAWAKA, Ind. - Buchanan's varsity softball team traveled south across the state line where they opened play of the Mishawaka Tournament.
In the opener the Lady Bucks took a 3-0 win over the Mishawaka “B” team.
Buchanan scored a run in the first and a single run in the third and added an insurance run in the top of the seventh to secure the win.
Jayme O'Bryant picked up the win allowing just four hits in the game. O'Bryant struck out six and walked three as she improved to 4-2,
Buchanan improves to 20-6 on the season.
Buchanan bats picked up seven hits in the game with O'Bryant also leading the team at the dish collecting three hits, two singles and a triple.
Losing pitcher Sarah Scanlon struck out six and walked two while her defense committed three errors.
In game two of the night the Lady Bucks were limited to just three hits in a 4-0 loss to Mishawaka. Ashley Pointer, 16-5, picked up the loss giving up four hits. She struck out four and walked one.
Mishawaka pushed all four of their runs across in the third inning.
Kaylin Franks was the winning pitcher holding the Lady Bucks scoreless while striking out five batters. Franks did give the Lady Bucks four free passes but they couldn't capitalize.
Holly Lucas doubled in the game but the rest of the Buchanan team was shut down at the plate.
Buchanan, 20-7, will return to Mishawaka on Saturday to resume competition in the tournament.
