NILES - An anonymous donation has provided Niles High School with new computers and calculators for the next school year.
Superintendent of Niles Community Schools Doug Law said an individual approached the administration about the district's needs. The inquiry followed with a technology gift of more than $2,000 worth of equipment from the Hewlett Packard Company. The package includes six laptop computers and 100 graphing calculators.
Because the gift has been valued at more than $2,000, it must be approved Monday night at the regular meeting of the Niles Community Schools Board of Education.
Law also said the board has reached a tentative agreement for a three year contract with the Michigan Education Association-backed 28-member secretary's union. A collective bargaining agreement method similar to the one employed to complete a recent agreement with the teacher's union was used, Law said. Details of the contract will not be available until the the board votes to approve the agreement, which Law said is expected to happen by Memorial Day.
Also at tonight's 7 p.m. meeting at the Westside Administration Building, the board will approve the date for the district's annual budget hearing. During that meeting on Monday, June 5 at 5:30 p.m. at the Westside Administration Building, the board will review the 2006-2007 general and school service budgets.
