NILES -The Niles soccer team hosted Sturgis Friday evening for a Big 16 non-divisional game, which ended in a 1-1 tie.
Niles scored early when Brittney Molnar sent a through ball to freshman Alyssa Booe. Booe played outstanding and was able to finish on one of her many good runs.
The Viking defense was solid with strong play by Rebecca Teske in goal, Claire and Brittney Molnar, Abby Mitchell and Danielle Sherwood.
The midfield of Danie Pulaski, Mandie Pingel, Sara Tyler and Kaitlyn Touhey controlled much of the game and sent many good balls to the offense. The offense of Alyssa Booe, Meagan Horn, Tearria Murphy, Nicole Brooks and Courtney Teske did a good job of receiving and setting up offensive play.
Heather Casey and Dakota Price stepped in and played strong for the Vikings in a couple of positions.
Niles controlled much of the game, but allowed Sturgis to score during a slight communication breakdown.
Head coach Denise Peters said her extremely young Vikings team is beginning to put things together.
The Vikings will host Kalamazoo Central on Monday. JV will play at 4 p.m. and the varsity will play at 5:30.
