NILES - Buchanan's Jayme O'Bryant and Niles' Meghan Horn have been named the Niles Daily Star Athletes of the Week for April 24-29.
O'Bryant, a freshman on the Bucks varsity softball team, has made a big statement this season. On April 25, O'Bryant nailed a three-run home run to bring Buchanan within one run of a tie 4-3 while playing Brandywine. O'Bryant had a solo home run in the fifth inning to tie the game at 5 and added a RBI double in the sixth to give Buchanan a 7-5 lead. In the second game, O'Bryant had a double, two home runs and five RBIs, helping the Bucks claim a 7-6 win over the Bobcats.
Horn, a freshman on the Niles varsity soccer team, lead the Vikings to a 2-1 victory over Dowagiac on April 26.
Niles and Dowagiac battled in two overtimes before Niles' Horn finished a through ball sent by junior Mandie Pingle to win it for the Vikings.
