Easy night for Lady Bobcats

NILES - Berrien Springs was no match for the Brandywine varsity softball team Tuesday evening as the Bobcats grabbed a pair of Lakeland Conference wins, 14-1 and 5-0.
The win brings Brandywine's record to 16-6 overall, 7-1 in the conference. The Bobcats are now tied for first place with Buchanan in the LAC.
In game one, a nine run second inning put the game out of reach for good. Brandywine had a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the second, when the Bobcat's bats came alive.
Mallory Barber stepped to the plate for Brandywine and blasted an out-of -the park home run over the left field fence. The home run was her first ever on the varsity squad. Barber also had three RBIs.
Other top hitters were Kelli Zache with three singles and one RBI. Zache, now 13-5, also took the win on the mound, while Kristina Ford came in for the relief.
Lindsey Shembarger suffered the loss for the Shamrocks.
Angela Newman had two singles and one RBI at the plate and Lauren Kachur had a double, single and one RBI.
In the nightcap, Ford had a home run for the Lady Cats, along with one RBI.
Kendra Zache added a single, double and one RBI and also took the win on the mound. Zache threw 12 strikeouts and allowed no walks and just one hit, improving her record to 3-1.
Kelsey Shembarger suffered the loss for Berrien Springs.
The Lady Cats will travel to River Valley on Friday for a pair of Lakeland Conference games set to begin at 4 p.m.
