Vikes squeeze by Eddies

NILES - The Niles varsity baseball team took an early lead Thursday afternoon against visiting Edwardsburg and never let it slip away.
The Vikings picked up their second win of the season with a 6-5 victory over the Eddies in a non-conference game.
Alex Welch scored one run in the first inning to put Niles on the board. The Vikes went on to score two runs in the second and three runs in the fourth, while Edwardsburg scored its first run in the third inning, two in the fifth and one in the sixth and seventh innings.
On the mound, Jake Ferguson took the win for the Vikes, throwing three strikouts and allowing five walks and five hits.
Other pitchers on the day were Dustin Anderson and DJ Wolnik.
Chuck Berry suffered the loss for the Eddies. Josh Teeter also pitched.
Top hitters were Tim Hardy, who went 2-for-3, Wolnik went 3-for-3 and catcher Dan Holland went 2-for-3 with a double.
The Vikings are back in action this Saturday when they host East Lansing. Game time is set to begin at noon.
