NILES - Niles' Nicole Ignowski and Brandywine's Dustin Zimmerman have been named the Niles Daily Star Athletes of the Week for April 17-23.
Ignowski, a senior on the Vikings softball team, provided a strong offensive performance when Niles met with Buchanan
Ignowski provided two big hits that allowed four runs to come across the plate in the first two innings and helped give the Vikes the lead for good.
Niles went on to win both games against the Bucks, 9-5 and 9-3.
A continuation baseball game between Brandywine and Edwardsburg resulted in a 13-12 win for the Bobcats thanks to a home run by Zimmerman.
The Eddies won the first game 8-6, but the Bobcats took a 13-12 win in eight innings in the second game, which took place on April 20.
Zimmerman's walk-off home run, his second of the game, won it for the Brandywine.
Zimmerman has been hammering home runs for the Bobcats all season, making him a big threat at the plate.
