Benton Harbor no match for Niles softball team Tuesday

NILES - The Niles varsity softball team traveled to Benton Harbor Tuesday and returned home with two Big 16 West Divsion wins.
The Vikings, now 9-2, grabbed a 12-0 win in the first game and a 17-2 win in the nightcap.
In game one, freshman pitcher Jenna Ignowski picked up her sixth win of the season on the mound, throwing a career high 15 strikeouts and allowing no walks. She also had two doubles at the plate.
Other top hitters for Niles were Stephanee Schrader with a triple and two singles, Nicole Ignowski had a triple, Karly Kennedy had two singles and Cricket Fisher had a home run.
In the second game, Niles wasted no time on offense and scored all 17 of its runs in the first inning. The nightcap only lasted three innings.
Freshman Erica Gordon made her pitching debut for the Lady Vikes. However, Gordon, along with senior pitcher Julie Kater, both injured their knees.
Gordon had two singles at the plate, while Kater added a triple and a single.
Nellie Coquillard and Lindsay Carey each added two singles and Patty Anton had a double.
The Vikes have some time off before returning to face a tough Mishawaka team on Monday at Vella Park.
The first game is set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
