Ring Lardner track teams have strong showings

NILES - The Vikings of Ring Lardner keep rolling along.
Last Thursday, both the boys and girls track teams traveled to Edwardsburg to compete against the Lakeshore Lancers and the Eddies. The boys scored 80 points with the Eddies receiving 55 and Lakeshore scoring 29. The girls won with a score of 76 to 54 for the Lancers and 34 for the Eddies.
Sarah Crabtree started the scoring for the Lady Vikes by taking first in the two and one mile runs. Maddie Rodts, Brittany Buti and Ashley Allison also took firsts in their individual races. Gabbie Ezell, Taylor Glick, Nichole Sly, Alex McIntee and Shannon McKeel all participated in sweeping all the relay races.
Mark Calhoun dominated the two and one mile runs, breaking the school record in two. Cameron Sly, Rashaad Harris, Shawn Holland, David Garner, Mitch Peterek, Anthony Horvath and the Potthoff twins dominated the meet by taking 11 of 16 possible first places.
Monday, the team continued on its roll, this time by beating four schools.
The girls defeated Benton Harbor, Buchanan, Edwardsburg and Lake Michigan Catholic by scoring 124 points with the Bucks coming closest with 92.
The boys had a tough competitor with the Eddies hanging close with a final score of 129 to 117.
Morgan Farmer, Rodts, Ezell and the relay teams led the team to victory.
Farmer took first in all three of her events. The Eddies were neck-in-neck with the Lady Vikes until the hurdles broke the race open.
Farmer, Allie Hoyt, Buti and Devyn Roberts took four of the top five places to start the scoring sweep. From then on, the girls won the next five events clinching the win.
Calhoun broke his own record Monday in the victory for the boys. The Potthoffs, Sly, Peterek, Holland, Garner, Horvath and Harris also led the way.
Important points came from Antwaan Brann, Ron Smith, Zak Prenkert, Andrew Wregglesworth and Justin Hughes.
