Vikes take lead in Big 16

EAU CLAIRE - The Niles Vikings had four players shoot under 60 on Monday afternoon at Indian Lake Hills Golf Course to grab the overall lead in the Big 16 Conference West Division golf standings.
Niles scored a 225 to easily outdistance runner-up Dowagiac, which shot 241. St. Joseph was third with a 245 and Benton Harbor fourth with a 294.
Niles has 14 points after two division jamborees, while St. Joseph is second with 12 points and Dowagiac third with 10 points. Benton Harbor is fourth with two points. The Lady Tigers did not compete in the first jamboree of the season.
The Lady Vikings got a pair of 55s from Hillary Landgraf and Kelsey Neilson. Niles also got a 57 from Amanda Gamso and a 58 from Brandie Radde. Eliza Coquillard and Kara Carpenter both finished at 61.
Dowagiac was led by Carly Gantt's 55. Jessy Oprea shot 57 for the Chieftains, who also got a 62 from Brittany Munson, a 65 from Tonya Scherer and a 71 from Brooke Lamb. Alyson Wheeler shot 76.
