BATTLE CREEK - Childhood stories may stay in a person's mind into adulthood. For one former Vandalia man, these tales became inspiration and are now presented in his book, Welcome Back To Self.
Antoinne “Tony” Evans took these stories and blended them with actual events of history.
Mixing fiction and a tale he remembered of a handicapped black man who became a banjo player in the South, he has a story.
His poetry was also inspired by many experiences and some of those same poems he has read publicly at poetry readings on campus at Kellogg Community College and at Cranbrook Writer's Conference last year.
Evans was born on Aug. 30, 1953 in Niles and his early years were filled with challenges.
The local Barnes &Noble in Battle Creek has scheduled Evans for a book signing on May 20, at 1 p.m. “I will be there until I have signed the very last book they have in stock,” he added.
He also write stories for children, which he plans to publish in his next book.
