CASSOPOLIS - Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports that on Tuesday, April 4, at around 3:50 p.m., deputies from the Cass County Sheriff's Office responded to an industrial accident at Aggregate Associates on U.S. 12 in Milton Township. Aggregate Associates operates a gravel pit and mining operation at that location.
Upon arrival deputies were advised that an employee of Aggregate Associates, Ayron Kull, 23, of Niles, was working in the gravel pit and had been pulled into a machine that is used to convey material from one side of the gravel pit to the other. Kull was freed from the machine by employees that were working at the time of the accident. However, Kull was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident remains under investigation.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by Edwardsburg/Ontwa Township Police Department, Edwardsburg Ambulance, and Edwarsburg Fire Department.
Kull's friends from around the country have already started making plans to fly to Michigan, said Adam Fisel, who met Kull in the Marines. Fisel said the two served together during tours of Iraq.
Kull was a 2001 graduate of Niles High School.
