NILES - The popular Bluegrass Festival in Niles and summer concert series have repeatedly brought in top name entertainment. The success of the summer program gave birth to the Winter Bluegrass Series at Niles Riverfront Cafe. The bluegrass group Goldmine Pickers will be returning here to appear in Niles this Sunday evening.
The quartet out of Goshen, Ind. with a guitar, mandolin, fiddle, harmonica and upright bass just completed a two-week tour of Ireland. The band has also played domestically with Yonder Mountain String Band.
Goldmine Pickers' debut of the self titled album was released in 2004. It was a previous performance in Niles and the purchase of that CD, which has led to the Goldmine Pickers popularity to have expanded across the globe.
Tom Mayer, his college friend took the CD of the Goldmine Pickers with him back to London, England and a track off the album, ‘Conversation's Free,' was heard and picked to be used in a new advertising campaign by Nissan car company for their new vehicle, the Nissan Note.
The ads will air in 35 countries in Europe on TV, radio and on the web.
The Sunday, March 19 show at the Riverfront Cafe is from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The schedule will continue with The Time Travelers on March 26; Lare Williams and the New Direction Band on April 2 and Honest D. &The Steel Reserve on April 9. The Cafe will be closed on Easter Sunday.
The Niles Bluegrass Festival will be held the first weekend in June. Visit www.nilesbluegrass.org for more information.
