Cassopolis’ McCoy seventh at state

Cassopolis' John McCoy placed seventh at 145-pounds in Division 4.
McCoy, who lost his opening round match via a 3:22 pin by Ryan Confer of New Lothrop, finished the tournament with a 3-2 record.
On Friday, McCoy decisioned Ruben Flores of Holton (8-6) and Brennan Phelan of Taylor Baptist Park (8-5).
On Saturday, McCoy was defeated by Andrew Anderson of Traverse City St. Francis (7-3).
Division 3
Buchanan's Travis Reith (49-9) finished sixth and Todd Taylor (47-8) seventh. Also competing for the Bucks were Nick Wheetley (47-10) and Jim Connors (45-13).
Dowagiac senior Tony Stewart capped off his career on Friday at the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 Individual Wrestling Finals at The Palace of Auburn Hills.
Stewart went 1-2 at the state finals and finished with a 46-12 overall record this season.
Stewart lost his first match on Thursday on a late takedown by Mt. Clemen's Lionel Julian. Julian posted a 3-1 decision over Stewart.
In the first round of consolation matches on Friday, Stewart defeated Justin Collier of Oscoda, 9-1.
In the second round of consolation matches, however, Stewart was eliminated from the tournament by Tim Lee of Melvindale, who pinned the Dowagiac senior in 1:15.
Division 4
In the seventh place match, McCoy defeated Anthony Klinger of Bronson, 6-2.
Brandywine's Jeremy Hechtl (47-13) finished seventh, while teammates Aaron Edquist (29-17) and Adam Simons (50-8) both competed, but did not place.
