NILES - Seven area wrestlers attended the MHSAA Individual State Finals this past weekend at the Palace of Auburn Hills in Detroit.
Brandywine's Adam Simons (189), Jeremy Hechtl (215) and Aaron Edquist (275) competed in the Division 4 finals, while Buchanan's Todd Taylor (112), Nick Wheetley (125), Travis Reith (130) and Jim Connors (189) competed in the Division 3 finals.
Of the seven, Reith finished sixth place, posting a 2-3 record, while Hechtl and Taylor both placed seventh with 3-2 records.
Reith won his first two matches, defeating Frank Knickerbocker of Vassar, 4-2 and Brandon Roose of Roscommon, 6-5.
Hechtl lost his opening match, but went on to win the next two, pinning Mike Szuma of Riverview Gabriel Richard at the 4:38 mark and Joe McGeathy of Whittemore-Prescott at the 2:23 mark.
Hechtl defeated Lake Fenton's Matt McCormick in his last match, 17-12.
Taylor lost his opening match, and went on to win the next two, defeating Sean Higgins of Stockbridge 12-0 and Darrin Crowder of Remus Chippewa Hills 6-4 in overtime.
Taylor also defeated Taylor Hawkins of Durand in his last match, 13-6.
For the Bobcats, Edquist lost his first two matches, while Simons won his first match by pin against Jacob Tuomi-Galindez of Lutheran Westland at 2:47. Simons fell in his last two matches.
For the Bucks, Wheetley lost his first two matches, while Connors won his second match by pin against Imlay City's Justin Parlett at :40.
