It's tourney time in Michigan for wrestling, basketball and volleyball.
We would like to not only wish all of our area squads good luck in the post season, but to invite our readers to take in one of the local tournaments.
The wrestling tournament has reached the state finals level for both team and individuals.
Tonight the Buchanan Bucks will be making their first trip to the state quarterfinals as they face Allendale in a Division 3 match at the Kellogg Center in Battle Creek.
The Bucks under long-time head coach Frank Mucha have a good chance of advancing to Saturday morning's semifinals.
We hope that a large crowd will follow the Bucks to Battle Creek and cheer them on to victory. The match is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m.
District volleyball tournaments started Thursday night at a few sites, however, the semifinals and finals will all be held on Saturday at various locations.
In Class C, Buchanan travels to Bridgman High School to take on Lakeland Conference rival Brandywine at noon.
The Bobcats were winners in a first-round match held on Thursday night. The finals are scheduled for 2 p.m.
In Class B on Saturday in St. Joseph, the Lady Vikings of Niles will be looking to knock off defending champion Lakeshore.
The Lady Vikings and Lady Lancers will square off at 11:30 with the winner advancing to the finals at 2:30 p.m.
Edwardsburg will also compete at St. Joseph and will face the winner of the St. Joseph-Coloma match at 1 p.m.
Also in Class B, Dowagiac journeys to Paw Paw to face future Wolverine Conference foe Three Rivers. The Chieftains, along with Paw Paw, join the Wolverine Conference next fall.
The Chieftains and Lady Wildcats are set to play at 10:30 a.m. with the winner moving on to the finals against either Paw Paw, Sturgis or Vicksburg. The finals are set for 1:30 p.m.
The district basketball tournament, known as “March Magic” in Michigan, begins Monday.
Niles will take on host St. Joseph, a squad it defeated last Friday night, in the second game of the tournament on Tuesday, March 7 at 7 p.m. The winner advances to Thursday's semifinal game. That contest tips off at 7 p.m. as well.
Dowagiac received a first round bye in the tournament held at St. Joseph High School and will meet the winner of Monday night's South Haven-Lakeshore contest.
The finals are set for 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 11.
Edwardsburg heads to Sturgis to compete in the Class B tournament. The Eddies face the winner of Monday night's Sturgis-Three Rivers match-up on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The finals are set for 7 p.m. on Friday, March 10.
In Class C at Bridgman High School, Brandywine and Buchanan will both be in action. The Bobcats play Monday night at 7:30 p.m. against the undefeated host Bees, while the Bucks will play on Thursday, March 9 against the winner of the River Valley-Berrien Springs contest.
The Brandywine-Bridgman winner advances to Wednesday's semifinal game against Watervliet. All games begin at 7:30 p.m.
In Class C action at White Pigeon, the Rangers will take on Centreville at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The winner moves to the semifinals on Thursday night against Marcellus.
The finals are scheduled for Saturday, March 11 at 7 p.m.
We know that all of our teams will make us proud by competing to the best of their abilities. Good luck, athletes.
