Dowagiac cagers fall to Lakeshore

Visiting Lakeshore on Tuesday defeated the Dowagiac freshmen and junior varsity basketball teams.
The freshmen team dropped a 51-38 decision to the Lancers, while the junior varsity squad fell to Lakeshore, 56-33.

Dowagiac trailed 14-8 after one period of play and 25-17 at halftime.
Lakeshore outscored Dowagiac 15-5 in the third quarter to break open the close contest.
The Chieftains (7-7) did outscore Lakeshore in the final eight minutes, 16-11, but could not overcome the third quarter deficit.
Shaun Bruens led Dowagiac with 15 points. Robert Jirminson added seven points.
JV basketball
Another slow start doomed the Chieftain junior varsity squad Tuesday night.
Lakeshore raced out to a 17-5 lead and held a 29-13 advantage heading into the locker room at halftime.
The Lancers outscored Dowagiac 27-20 in the second half to seal the victory.
Jake Cox led Dowagiac (2-14) with eight points. Freddy Soto finished with six points and Jake Kling five.
The Chieftains return to action on Friday when they host St. Joseph.
The freshmen game will begin at 4:15 p.m. The junior varsity contest will follow at 5:45.
