NILES - It was a quick night in the Viking gym as the Niles varsity volleyball team swept visiting River Valley in three non-conference games.
The Vikes, who were fresh off of their New Buffalo tournament win, took 25-14, 25-11 and 25-16 wins Monday.
Head coach Jami Foster was very pleased with the way her team played and credited their momentum and drive to be better.
Niles had a bit of a scare in the third game, as the Mustangs jumped to an early 5-1 lead.
Niles slowly caught up though and was able to tie the game at seven when Brittney Passig hammered a kill over the net.
After Passig's kill, sophomore Kaylynn Stephenson, who had six aces on the night, served an ace to give the Vikes thelead for good.
After trailing Niles by as many as six points, River Valley gave it one last show and was able to come within two points, 16-14, of a tie.
However, a defensive error on the Mustangs side gave the Vikes a point and possession of the ball.
With the score showing 24-17, sophomore Karly Kennedy pounded the ball over the net for the Niles win.
The Vikings have a full week off before facing Brandywine on Monday, Feb. 13.
The game against the Bobcats is at Brandywine. Freshmen and JV will begin at 6 p.m., with varsity following.
