CASSOPOLIS - A Niles woman whose vehicle struck a tree in LaGrange Township remained in critical condition Monday afternoon.
Karin Gruzalski, 41, of Niles, was injured in a crash at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 5.
Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reported his deputies handled a personal-injury traffic crash on Pokagon Highway, west of Oak Grove Street.
The driver of the vehicle was travelling west on Pokagon Highway when she lost control of her vehicle and ran off the road, striking a mailbox and then a tree.
She was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated.
Gruzalski was transported to Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac, then airlifted to South Bend, Ind., Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
It appears speed and road conditions caused the accident. Seatbelts were worn.
Dowagiac fire and ambulance, Life Care ambulance and Cassopolis fire personnel were on the scene of the accident.
Alcohol was not a factor.
The accident remains under investigation.
