NILES - A 25-year-old Granger, Ind. woman on Wednesday pleaded guilty to two charges of Operating Under the Influence of Liquor (OUIL) causing death, Berrien County Assistant Prosecutor Kelly Travis said.
Amanda Christenson revoked her $100,000 bond and began serving her sentence in Berrien County Jail on Wednesday.
The plea bargain should give Christenson a minimum sentence of 48 months, and, her time should not exceed the maximum sentence of 15 years, Travis said.
The charges stem from an accident which happened at 7:45 p.m. on the night of Wednesday, Nov. 23, in which Christenson failed to stop at the intersection of South 11 Street and Ontario Road in Niles Township.
Christenson slammed her Lexus into the back of a stopped Suzuki SUV which had two occupants, both from Niles.
The driver of the SUV, Donna Christine Lutin, 52, and passenger Michael Firmer King, 52, were both pronounced dead at the scene.
The SUV was pushed forward from the impact and struck the back of a Chevy pickup driven by Mark Wayne, 51, of Niles, who was transported to Lakeland-Niles, treated and released.
Christenson now awaits a March 13 sentencing by Judge Gary Bruce in Berrien County, Fifth District, Niles Court (South County).
