BUCHANAN - Coming off a big win Monday night over Niles, the Lady Bucks varsity volleyball team backed that performance up with a solid 3-0 win over Edwardsburg as they returned to Lakeland Conference action Wednesday night.
The Lady Bucks set down the visiting Eddies 25-11, 25-16, 25-23.
Buchanan jumped out early in the first game to a 11-3 lead and were really never threatened. “We came out strong tonight,” Buchanan coach Lisa Holok said after the win. “I feel we are continuing to build one game after another.”
In the nights second match Buchanan got down early but bounced back to tie the game at four and preceded to take over the game and put more pressure on the Eddies as they entered the third match of the evening.
It looked as if the Lady Bucks were going walk off easily with game three pulling out to a 14-7 advantage. But a determined Eddies team fought back to tie the game at 15.
Buchanan managed to rebuild a 23-19 lead but again the Eddies came charging back and once again tied the game up at 23 before Buchanan put the game away and send the Eddies packing as they drop to 0-3 in the Lakeland and 1-3 overall.
Ross finished the night with 19 assists, four kills and four aces. For senior Jill Woodrick, who was celebrating her birthday, ended the night with 17 digs.
Hayley Burks also had 12 digs, eight kills and a pair of aces for the night while Courtney Miller recorded seven kills and eight digs for the Lady Bucks.
The win improves Buchanan to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in conference action and will take on Bridgman next Wednesday.
