NILES - The City of Niles is looking for citizen's interested in serving on two different volunteer advisory boards.
There are vacancies presently on the Niles Parks and Recreation Board and the Niles Airport Board.
Candidates must be registered electors of the City of Niles and be willing to serve 4 year terms. There are currently two vacancies on the Parks Board and one on the Airport Board.
The Parks Board meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. and the Airport Board meets on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m.
Meetings generally run one-half hour to two hours long, depending on the types of projects and issues being worked on.
Board members serve at the pleasure of the Niles City Council and are appointed by majority vote of the Council.
Citizens interested in serving on either board should contact City Clerk Ruth Harte (269-683-4700 or rharte@nilesmi.org) for an application form, or contact Public Works Director Neil Coulston (269-683-4700 or ncoulston@nilesmi.org) for more information about the boards activities.
Offices for both Harte and Coulston are at the Niles City Hall, 508 East Main St.
At the present time the Parks Board is working primarily on a Five Year Parks and Recreation Master Plan update and other park projects, while the Airport Board will be working on runway approach easements, equipment purchases and other airport projects.
