NILES - Though the investigation is still continuing, it appears the death on New Year's Day in Niles at Jay's Lounge was from a heart attack.
Preliminary autopsy findings for the cause of death for Guy Barry Winston is hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiac vascular disease, according to Capt. David Chandler of the Berrien County Sheriff's Office.
Winston, 36, of Niles, died early New Year's Day while trying to break up a large fight at Jay's Lounge, 3025 S. 11th St., Niles Township, as the bouncer.
Forensic pathologist Dr. Joseph Prahlow from Memorial Hospital, South Bend, Ind., will finalize cause of death, once pathology reports are completed from urine and blood and tissue samples are analyzed, Chandler reported Thursday.
The investigation in the death is still ongoing.
