Employee dies after fight at bar early New Year’s Day

NILES - At 2:20 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, Berrien County sheriff's deputies responded to a large fight call at Jay's Lounge, 3025 S. 11th St., Niles Township.
When deputies arrived, they found a subject identified as Guy Barry Winston, 36, of Niles, lying on the ground outside the front door with several employees performing cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on him.
He was transported to Memorial Hospital, South Bend, Ind., where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Winston was an employee of Jay's Lounge.
This night he was working as a doorman and was attempting to break up this large fight.
Cause of death was undetermined.
An autopsy will be conducted.
This investigation is continuing. Anyone with information, please contact the Berrien County Sheriff's Office.
Assisting in this investigation was the Michigan State Police Niles post and Niles City Police Department.
Several Detectives from the Berrien County Homicide Task Force were called out to assist with interviews.
