NILES - Don't miss your chance to help out those who are in need during the holiday season and throughout the year by giving to the Salvation Army.
Bell ringers for the Salvation Army, have been at the entrances of local businesses including the Niles Wal-Mart since just after Thanksgiving collecting funds, and will be out collecting funds in their red kettles today until the stores close for the holiday.
Walters said funds raised through the holiday season and the rest of the year will go to help area residents who are in need.
Walters added that if anyone who wanted to donate to the Salvation Army can take donations directly to the Niles Salvation Army or to the Greater Niles United Way.
This year, the Niles Salvation Army was able to help 45 families through the Adopt-a-Family program with food and gifts. Those who weren't adopted through the program were still able to receive gifts from the Salvation Army.
Eighth grade students from Niles' Ring Lardner Middle School National Junior Honor Society helped the Salvation Army in their efforts to collect funds during the holidays.
