Lakeshore hands Chiefs 64-50 loss Friday night

STEVENSVILLE - Red-hot shooting in the second half led the host Lakeshore Lancers to a 64-50 come-from-behind Big 16 Conference West Division victory over Dowagiac Friday night.
The Lancers (3-1, 1-0) shot 67 percent in the second half (14-of-21) to erase a one-point (26-25) halftime advantage.
Lakeshore trailed by as many as 10 points late in the second quarter, 23-13, but outscored Dowagiac 12-3 over the final three minutes to cut the lead to a single point at the intermission.
Speared by the shooting of Tim Frakes in the second half, the Lancers built up a 10-point cushion by the end of the third quarter (48-38).
Dowagiac managed to get the lead down to seven points, but would get no closer as the Chieftains hit just 9-of-22 attempts from the field in the second half - including 2-of-9 from three-point range.
Lakeshore continued to pull away in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Chieftains 16-12.
Dowagiac played well early in the contest.
After Lakeshore jumped out to a quick lead on the Chieftains, Dowagiac rallied and took a 13-11 lead into the second period.
Dowagiac outscored Lakeshore 10-2 in the first five minutes of the second quarter to build up the 10-point advantage.
The Lancers stormed back fueled by some missed shots and turnovers to cut the lead to 26-25 at halftime.
Frakes was 9-of-15 on the night for a game-high 24 points.
The Lancers also got 16 points and a game-high seven rebounds from Shaine Tierney. Tim McNair added nine points.
Chris Primley, despite injuring his hand in the first quarter, led Dowagiac with 13 points and five rebounds before fouling out.
The Chieftains also got 12 points from Amos Clark. Jamere Bacon added seven points off the bench.
The Chieftains finished the night shooting 42 percent from the field compared to 47 percent for the Lancers.
The Chieftains were 7-of-12 at the free throw line, while Lakeshore was 9-of-13.
Dowagiac (1-2 overall, 0-1 Big 16 West Division) held a 30-27 advantage on the backboards, however, the Chieftains turned the ball over 18 times compared to 13 for the Lancers.
The Chieftains return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 28 when they compete in the Sturgis Bank &Trust Holiday Basketball Classic at White Pigeon High School.
The Chieftains will face Edwardsburg in the second game of the doubleheader at 6 p.m.
Cassopolis and White Pigeon will play at 3 p.m. with the winners advancing to Thursday's title game at 8 p.m.
The consolation game will be played at 6 p.m.
