Buchanan’s Jayme O’Bryant wins state Punt, Pass &Kick championship

NILES - Jayme O'Bryant,14 years-old from Buchanan, won the State Punt, Pass &Kick Championship title in her age bracket (14-15) at the Detroit Lions Ford Field on Dec. 4, 2005 during halftime.
This is a record breaking win for Jayme, making her a four-time state champion. Jayme is also in the record books for winning the state title in every age division (8-9, 10-11, 12-13 and 14-15) and having qualified six times to compete at a Lion's game for the state title. Jayme has won the state championship title in 2005, 2004, 2002 and 2000. She is eligible to compete in this competition one more year.
Jayme won the local competition sponsored by Buchanan Rocket Football and the Buchanan Area Recreation Board with a score of 284 feet on Sept. 18.
She then won the sectional competition in Kalamazoo on Oct. 8 with a score of 317 feet. Jayme's score of 263 feet at Detroit has ranked her sixth in the nation. The top four competitors will move on to the national title at an NFL play-off game in January.
Jayme is a freshman at Buchanan High School. She is a member of the girls varsity basketball team and junior varsity volleyball team, Michiana Mystique traveling softball team and a member of the 2005 McDonald/Mitsubishi All-Star softball team.
She is the daughter of John and Juli O'Bryant.
