Cassopolis wins own invitational

The Cassopolis varsity wrestling team improved its season record to 5-2 by winning its own Cassopolis Colossal Duals on Saturday.
The Rangers went 5-0, rebounding from a pair of losses in its season opener on Thursday, Dec. 1 to South Haven 57-18 and Bangor 42-39.
The Rangers defeated White Pigeon in the opening round, 39-38.
Cassopolis then defeated Mendon (48-30), Watervliet (57-18), Marcellus (54-30) and Athens (40-36).
Going undefeated on the day for the Rangers were John McCoy at 145-pounds, John Grice at 275-pounds and Cory Lowe at 130-pounds.
Finishing with a 4-1 record were Joe Sobieski at 160-pounds, Josh Deubner at 189-pounds and J.J. Beathea at 103-pounds.
Athens finished second with a 4-1 record, while White Pigeon was third at 3-2 and Marcellus fourth at 2-3. Mendon finished with a 1-4 record, while Watervliet was 0-5.
To reach the title match, Athens defeated Watervliet (70-12), Marcellus (60-24), Mendon (56-18) and White Pigeon (40-33).
White Pigeon defeated Marcellus (57-30), Watervliet (45-30) and Mendon (48-27). Marcellus picked up its two wins against Mendon (42-38) and Watervliet (55-10). Mendon defeated Watervliet (45-30) for its lone victory.
The Rangers were back in action on Wednesday as it squared off against arch rival Edwardsburg.
