ST. JOSEPH - It's official. Scott Clark was confirmed Monday as the winner of the City of Niles Fourth Ward council seat - and gained two votes in the process.
On Monday, Berrien County Clerk Louise Stine and the county's board of canvassers conducted a recount of the votes between Clark, the incumbent, and challenger Robert Burch.
When the tallying was completed, the board of canvassers showed 206 votes for Burch and 215 votes for Clark, a difference of nine votes.
The recount was conducted at the request of Burch when the results of the Nov. 8 election showed Clark had won by seven votes, receiving 214 to Burch's 207.
He is now setting his sights on the 2007 election and the fourth ward seat held now by Councilmember Bruce Williams.
Clark said he was pleased with the involvement of Burch in this year's election.
