NILES - Niles' Lindsay Craig and Brandywine's Kalie Newman have been chosen as the Niles Daily Star Athletes of the Week for Nov. 5-11.
Craig, a freshman on the Lady Vikes' varsity basketball team, helped lift Niles to a victory over Dowagiac on Nov. 10 when she made a huge fourth quarter steal that turned the game around for Niles.
Before the steal, the Vikes only had a small lead on the Chieftains. Head coach Jim Arnold said it after that game that the steal was a big key that propelled the team. Despite a knee injury, Craig has stepped up this season for Niles on both offense and defense.
Newman, a senior for the Lady Bobcats, was the leading scorer during Brandywine's game against Lake Michigan Catholic and Coloma.
Against the Lakers, Newman scored 23 points and had 11 against the Comets.
Also suffering injuries during the season, Newman overcame them and was a big part of the Bobcat team.
Congratulations to all of this weeks Athletes of the Week!
