NILES - Some of the most hectic and stressful situations can also be some of the most rewarding.
Over the last three months, Oak Manor Sixth Grade Center Principal Robin Hadrick has gone through the ups and downs of the new building, which was created to house the district's sixth grade students and to help save the district funds.
Hadrick explained to the Board all of the things which have been implemented at the school including technology in the classrooms; classes such as music, spanish, band and choir and after school sports programs.
We knew when we were creating the center that we wanted to have the “perfect” classroom for the students and teachers, Craig said.
We are doing new and exciting things here at Oak Manor, Hadrick said.
Mike Dreher, president of the Niles Community Schools Board of Education, said, “This is a fantastic building and I would like to congratulate Mrs. Hadrick and the staff of Oak Manor on overcoming the obstacles they have encountered and for doing a great job.”
In other business, the board approved Northside Principal Cindy Wickham as the boards Head Start representative to act on behalf of the board in matters concerning Head Start.
The board also approved the purchase of three, 30-passenger mini-buses as part of the district's long range plan.
Finally the board approved the districts preliminary application to the Michigan State Department of Treasury for the bond issue, in which the district is seeking to build a new high school and make renovations and additions to existing building in the district.
The board would like to remind community members they will be hosting a series of community forum meetings to discuss the upcoming bond issue and answer any questions people may have.
The first meeting is tonight, at 6:30 p.m. at Oak Manor Sixth Grade Center, 1 Tyler St. and the second meeting will be at 5:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 22, at Northside, 2020 North Fifth St.
