NILES - Just last month, Brandywine's girls basketball coach Dave Roeder said he wanted his team to end the rest of the regular season on a winning note.
Despite one loss on Tuesday to Lake Michigan Catholic, the Lady Cats ended on a good note Thursday night with a 46-39 win over Coloma.
The Cats had won their three previous games before Tuesday, bringing their regular season record to 11-9.
Thursday's game against the Coments was anything but an easy win, as Coloma only trailed Brandywine by two points after the first quarter, 14-12 and one point at halftime, 24-23.
A 14-6 run in the third gave the Lady Cats their biggest lead of the night entering the fourth, 40-29.
The Coments added nine points to their score in the final period, but the Lady Cats were able to stay ahead and claim the victory.
Kalie Newman was the leading scorer for Brandywine with 11 points. Katie Smallwood added nine and Kari Konopka had seven.
For the Comets, Andrea Balsis and Hannah Barrett both contributed 13 points, while Haley Gine added six.
Brandywine will begin district action on Monday evening when it travels to Watervliet to take on River Valley. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
The winner will advance to Wednesday evenings game againe Buchanan, which drew a first round bye. That game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
