As the onset of fall takes hold, it is a reminder to the students in Linda O'Keefe's Healthy Lifestyles class that the annual Senior Citizen Luncheon is fast approaching.
Along with this event, this time of year also brings our Drama Club production and Parent Fair.
Senior Citizen
Luncheon
The Senior Citizen Luncheon has been a popular community event at the high school for the past 15 years.
Students at the high school have participated in this event.
Twice a year, students from O'Keefe's classes cater a luncheon specifically for our area senior citizens.
Though the menu changes yearly, the food is always warm and good.
On average, 120 students participate in this community event. They serve as greeters who help direct the guests to the media center and coat checkers who gladly find a hanger for your coat.
Under the direction of O'Keefe, students not only help prepare the food, they also act as servers.
This year's menu will consist of lasagna, garlic toast, salad and New York-style cheesecake as the dessert.
This year the luncheon will be held on Nov. 17.
It has become so popular that there are two sittings, one at 11 a.m. and the other at noon.
The luncheon is open to any area senior citizen.
Reservations are appreciated and can be made by calling 782-4420.
Parent Fair
Our 10th annual Parent Fair will take place on Nov. 17.
This will be held at Dowagiac Middle School (a change from the high school) and will start at 5 p.m.
Booths will be set up with a variety of useful information.
This year Mark Sloane, DO, FACOP, FAAP will be the featured speaker. His presentation will begin at 6:40 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center.
The Parent Fair is free to the public.
The drama production for this year is “God's Favorite,” a comedy written by the successful playwright Neil Simon.
This year's production is directed by veteran director Rich Frantz.
Showings will be at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18, as well as 7:30 on Saturday, Nov. 19.
This will be the first drama production to be held in the new Performing Arts Center at Dowagiac Middle School.
