Penninger qualifies for state meet

Kalamazoo Hackett and Kalamazo Christian captured the boys' and girls' Division 3 regional cross country championships respectively on Saturday at Portage West Middle School.
Hackett easily outdistanced runner up Bangor. The Irish finished with 69 points compared to the Vikings' 92 points.
Kalamazoo Christian was third in the boy's portion of the meet with 113 points, while Parchment and Schoolcraft rounded out the top five with 135 and 156 points.
Dowagiac finished ninth with 222 points, Brandywine 10th with 267 points, Edwardsburg 14th with 352 points and Buchanan 16th with 368 points.
Nick Tecca of Parchment was the winner with a time of 15:59. Edwardsburg's Michael Penninger finished eighth with a time of 17:18 to qualify for this weekend's state finals.
Penniger qualified for the state finals which will be held on Saturday at the Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn.
Christian won the girl's portion of the meet with 43 points to edge Schoolcraft by two points. Hackett was a distant third with 121 points, while Bangor and Hartford were fourth and fifth with 130 and 138 points.
Edwardsburg finished seventh with 184 points, Buchanan eighth with 186 points, Dowagiac 11th with 318 points.
Leah Reames of Kalamazoo Christian was the overall winner with a time of 18:49.
Ryan Bringehadl was 69th for the Eddies with a time of 19:51.
Matt Boesler finished 84th (20:48), Andy Breslin 90th (21:00) and Ben Fahey 101st (22:43).
Jason Tabbert finished 17th for the Chieftains with a time of 17:38. Tabbert missed qualifying for the state finals by just nine seconds.
Evan Bressler was 39th with a time of 18:55. Mike Kasper finished 46th (19:07), Bradley Lee 53rd (19:18), Oscar Azevedo 67th (19:46), Eric Morton 81st (20:43) and Tony Saviano 85th (20:50).
Angie Bronicki just missed qualifying for the finals as she finished 17th with a time of 21:01.
Veronica Brubacher was 21st with a time of 21:32, while Allison Cutter finished 30th with a time of 22:15.
Katelin Bowman and Sarah Derucki finished 46th and 70th with times of 23:56 and 26:47 respectively.
Crissy Huff led the Chieftains with a 60th place finish and a time of 24:37.
Katie Hewitt finished 62nd with a time of 24:47, while Chelsey Preston was 71st (25:38), Catie Hamilton 81st (26:49), Ashley Willis 87th (29:08) and Moneisha Clabin 88th (29:27).
Cassopolis's Cal Pompey finished 24th in the Division 4 regional held at Glen Oaks Community College in Centreville on Saturday.
Cody Badl was 57th with a time of 22:04, while Nathan Ceisiolka was 59th with a time of 22:20.
