WARREN - Carol A. Churchill, a long-time Cass County resident, has been named vice provost for economic and workforce development at Macomb Community College in Warren.
In her new role, Mrs. Churchill oversees a newly formed division that includes the Workforce Development Institute, the Center for Continuing and Professional Education and the Public Service Institute.
Macomb's Workforce Development Institute supports the training and economic development needs of a county of more than 770,000 residents.
The institute leverages resources to provide skills training for incumbent and prospective workers, serving clients' needs locally, nationally and internationally in customized, online and on-site formats.
Churchill will also head the Center for Continuing and Professional Education, which serves approximately 12,000 students each semester.
Programming offered by the center ranges from “College for Kids” that provides enrichment for young children to opportunities for workplace professionals who seek to certify or enhance their workplace skills.
The Macomb Emergency Services Training Center offers the state's largest indoor firing range, and a burn tower that provides students with authentic experience in handling live fires. “I personally feel more secure knowing the quality of training that Macomb provides to our first responders.”
Churchill has also been selected as one of only 22 college leaders to attend the prestigious Executive Leadership Institute, sponsored by the League for Innovation in the Community College in cooperation with The University of Texas at Austin and the American Association of Community Colleges. A panel selected the participants from a pool of approximately 100 applicants holding senior-level positions of leadership in community colleges. The purpose of the institute is to provide an opportunity for potential community college presidents or those in transition to review their abilities and interests, to refine their skills, and to participate in discussions on leadership with outstanding community college leaders in North American. “I am looking forward to a challenging experience and am very honored to have the support of Macomb Community College in this endeavor,” said Churchill
Churchill has served previously in the role of Dean of Student Success at Macomb Community College for two years. Prior to her association with Macomb, Churchill was the Vice President for Student Services at Southwestern Michigan College in Dowagiac, Mich. She is the daughter of Oydean and the late Donald McKenzie of Marcellus and resides with her husband, Jim, in Riley, Mich.
Macomb Community College is one of the nation's leading community colleges, serving more than 30,000 students each semester and reaching more than 350,000 persons each year through cultural and community service programs. The college's comprehensive educational programming includes pre-collegiate experiences, university transfer and career preparation programs, bachelor degree completion and graduate degree programs, workforce training, professional education and certification, and community education and enrichment opportunities.
