NILES - You can help a community group continue its good work and enjoy some great new recipes while doing it.
The Lakeland Auxiliary-Pawating of Lakeland Hospital Niles debuted its newest fundraiser Tuesday. The group has created a cookbook called, “Small Town Tastes,” which is made up of 315 different recipes from the Lakeland Hospital staff, volunteers and members of the Niles and Buchanan communities.
The group was looking for a way to raise funds to support its projects and thought a cookbook would be a great idea as many members of the auxiliary love to cook and even collect cookbooks.
It took the group 10 months to complete the cookbook, working through all of the submitted recipes deciding which ones to include.
Besides the recipes, the book also features photographs of historic buildings in Niles and Buchanan, as well as helpful hints for those who may need a bit of help in the kitchen.
The cookbooks are available at the Dream Catchers gift shop, located in the hospital's main lobby.
The book costs $19.95 and all proceeds from the sale of the books go directly to the auxiliary, which are used to support Lakeland Hospital Niles.
Over the last four years the Lakeland Auxiliary-Pawating has given more than $200,000 back to the hospital for renovations. The group has pledged to give $75,000 toward the renovation of the hospital's cafeteria, which is currently under way.
