We would like to wish good luck to a number of area athletes who will be participating in the post season this weekend.
Tonight Dowagiac's and Edwardsburg's football teams will compete in the Michigan High School Athletic Association's Division 4 and Division 5 playoffs.
The Chieftains will travel to Paw Paw for its first playoff appearance since 2000.
Edwardsburg also heads east as it travels to Comstock to make its fourth playoff appearance in the past six seasons.
Both teams enter the games as underdogs.
The Chieftains are 6-3 on the season and are facing a Paw Paw team which has won all nine of its games this season and 19 games over the past two years.
Both Dowagiac and Paw Paw will be moving into the Wolverine Conference next season, so this is the start of what could turn into quite a rivalry between the schools.
The Chieftains and Redskins will play week nine next season.
Edwardsburg, the undisputed champions of the Lakeland Conference, will be facing the undisputed champions of the Wolverine Conference in Comstock.
The Colts are hosting their first-ever home playoff game.
Both teams are senior dominated.
Edwardsburg has 20 seniors on its roster, while Comstock has 21 seniors.
On Saturday area cross country teams will scatter throughout southwestern lower Michigan for the regional meets.
Comstock will be hosting the Division 2 and Division 3 regional meets at Portage West Middle School.
Niles will compete in Division 2, while Brandywine, Buchanan, Dowagiac and Edwardsburg will be competing in Division 3.
Cassopolis will compete in Division 4 at Centreville High School.
Saturday is the day for which each and every one of these cross country runners has been shooting.
Their goal is to advance to the state meet in November.
We are excited about the prospects of many of these runners and fully expect them to qualify for state finals.
If you haven't gotten out to see any of these teams, this could be your last opportunity.
With the forecast for nearly perfect fall weather, both tonight and on Saturday, we extend the invitation to cheer on your favorite team to victory.
