DOWAGIAC - The final score of Monday afternoon's Division 3 District Soccer Tournament will read Dowagiac 1 and Buchanan 0.
But the reality of the match was that Dowagiac dominated the opening round game from start to finish.
The Chieftains, who are the defending district champions, outshot the visiting Bucks 34-2 but were unable to find the back of the net until late in the second half.
Dowagiac's David Cardenas fired a shot that somehow got through the Buchanan goalkeeper in the 60th minute to provide the winner.
The assist went to Nate Long.
Dowagiac will now advance to Thursday's semifinal contest against Edwardsburg, a 7-1 winner over Berrien Springs on Monday afternoon.
The Eddies defeated the Chieftains in the opening match of the season and then played to a 1-1 tie two weeks ago.
The match, which will be held in Edwardsburg, is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
Berrien Springs…1
Edwardsburg…7
Chris Hayes and Jeremy Watkins both scored a pair of goals for the Eddies, who advanced to the district semifinal with a 7-1 victory.
Also scoring for the Eddies were Gary Klann and Philip Turner. The Eddies also got an own goal from the Shamrocks.
Berrien Springs got it only goal from Kory Zandarski.
Edwardsburg led 4-0 at halftime and 7-0 before the Shamrocks finally averted the shutout in the 78th minute.
