NILES - Monday evenings Division 3 soccer game between the Brandywine Bobcats and the River Valley Mustangs was a little too close for comfort.
Though Brandywine was able to walk away with a 2-1 victory in overtime, head coach Jim McNamara said the game should have never gotten as far as it did.
The Bobcats were the first to score in the first half when junior Travis Duncan netted the ball on an assist from Matt Beaver at the 8:24 mark.
For the next 24 minutes, the ball moved back and forth up the field.
During the 32nd minute, Caleb Dryden scored the Mustangs first goal, tying the score at one heading into halftime.
But the second half would prove to be scoreless as both teams struggled to get the ball in the net again playing the back and forth game.
As time winded down, it was obvious both would be heading into overtime.
Luckily for Brandywine, it was able to control the ball better and not let River Valley control the tempo of the game.
With just over five minutes left in the first overtime, the Bobcats got a free kick.
Matt Beaver played a perfect ball to the far post, where Kyle Low headed it into the back of the net, giving the Bobcats the 2-1 win.
Brandywine will return to district action on Wednesday when it travels to Edwardsburg to face the winner of the Coloma/Bridgman match. Game time is set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
